At the WCAF Expo/PPFA Convention this week, I purchased two new tools....

To replace my old pneumatic Kihlberg stapler that failed last year, I found an Omer stapler that would fire the same 3/8" shoulder staples. That was important, because I still have thousands of those staples in three leg-lengths. As a bonus, this new stapler has an easily-installed attachment to use for fitting, which fires the staples only half-way into the rabbet.

I finally bought the Hoffman joiner/routing machine I've wanted for a couple of years. The smaller model is quite adequate for my needs, and comes with an assortment of inserts and a spare carbide router bit.

My new toys should arrive next week. Woohoo!

Jim, after years of telling everyone how great the Hoffman Machines are (and convincing them that showing at WCAF would be beneficial to them) I took one home from the show!

Big advantage of having the company truck there- got a great deal on one of the machines used as a "demo" on the floor. Looking forward to comparing notes on your perspective of using the machine.

The new Valliani's look sweet and the price points are fantastic. I think their partnership with Crescent will be a good thing. If I had a bigger truck there, I might have taken one home with me too.

The dovetail routing concept is well established and versatile for joining pieces of wood in many applications, including frame joining. The American Thumbnail and Cornerlock systems are similar, except that the Hoffmann fasteners are much stronger, which makes all the difference. I have seen the Thumbnail fasteners break easily.

Here is the machine I ordered, as shown on the Hoffmann web site.

Very nice Jim. I noticed the tape-measures are in metrics. Is yours going to be in metrics too and if so, are you going to replace it with imperial measures or leave as is?
Slowly people in the US are switching to metrics. Thickness of glass and board, sizes of v-nails are a few examples measured in metrics.
