Hello,
I was just informed that ribbons for participation in the open and print-competition have been discontinued.
This means, that if one of us enters the competition and does not win any prize, then we have nothing to show for in our shop, that we actually took part in a framing competition. At some stage in the past, we used to receive a small certificate too, but I think that has been discontinued as well.

These blue ribbons are not so expensive to purchase and without any proof of participating, I doubt I will take part in a PPFA framing competition again. Can we please reverse this decision regarding the ribbons?

Personally. I'm not in favour for rewarding someone just for participating. I would prefer that to be reserved that for children participating in sport or some other activity!

Most entries in competitions range from good to extremely stupendous, but I have seen some entries in comps down here that have been very, very ordinary to downright pedestrian. I do not think anyone deserves to be rewarded with a ribbon, certificate or anything else if their entries are of a low standard. Someone could enter every year with low standard entries and accumulate a bank of ribbons/certificates and use these as a method of promotion of their design skills.

I would have thought that the main purpose of entering competitions would be to win or gain a place or other award? Maybe I'm wrong?

Kai,

Budgets are being cut across the board and unfortunately this is one place costs get cut. I am sorry you are not happy about the decision but unfortunately as of now that is the way things are.

Robin

P.S. I have my entries from past years hanging in my shop but do not have the ribbons displayed. It gives me the opportunity to speak with my customers and tell them these were pieces entered into the framing competitions. I do hope you will enters again. The competitions are a wonderful experience and a way to further your framing knowledge.
