I have been seeing so many oversized jobs this year I am beginning to wonder if something is up. One of my colleagues thinks it is because the houses are so much larger than they used to be. I have had several jobs that could not be done out of 4 x 8 sheets. I just seamed some coroplast to face a strainer this week, got in a 4 x 7 painting today, and four 5 x 8 ft photographs Monday.

I joke that I must be the only place in town that is willing to handle pieces larger than 40 x 60! (with my 5'3" body and no help!)

I have a vintage poster in right now that is 45 x 63, not too big

And a96 x 40 coming in at the end of the month.

I always ask if they have a huge wall, and the usual response is, "the wall really needed it".

Sounds good to me!

I am not afraid to tackle large size pieces, as long as I charge accordingly. And there are many places that are afraid, so word of mouth helps as well.

In the last few months i have competed two 3 1/2 x 6 foot shadowboxes and am now working on five 4x8 foot history boards for a local military squadron. 24 x 36 or larger seems to be the norm lately.

A lot of your experience with oversized framing deals with not only housing trends, but also with your client mix. If you have corporate clients that need art for common areas (public art in foyers of large buildings), oversized is common.

BTY, housing trends in the last 4 years are for new construction of homes to be smaller than the Mc-Mansions.

In the past year I have framed several paintings and mixed media pieces over 96" x 96".... some with glazing.
