Pretty on the Inside

I had an interesting experience yesterday in my store. One of my somewhat new interior designers came in with a batch of items to be framed. As we were working on the designs, she said "I need to fess up" and said that when we first began, she had a lot of work so she gave me a batch and went back to the shop she had worked with and had them frame some pieces for her as well. The designers customer had framed photographs from both our shops. When the son came home, he realized he had not signed the pieces so the designer and her client took the pieces apart so he could sign them. My designer said she was mortified at the contents of the frame package from the other store and she will never go back there again - score for me! She will be bringing the poorly fit pieces in for some "Myrna love" as she puts it. I have always been a proponent of making sure my work looks good from ALL angles. You never know when someone will need to take the frame apart. That is why I always make it - pretty on the inside - ya never know!

I share that philosophy, and have never hesitated to open something I have framed in front of the customer.

I am just as quick to open someone else's work. If it was framed locally, I always find something that shouldn't be there or something that isn't there that should be. It is a great opportunity to educate the customer, and in most cases I can make the corrections right in front of the customer. Usually it is masking tape and cardboard.
