Topic: Mounting Textiles
*Note early time
Textiles are beautiful—think cross-stitch, needlepoint, garments, kalagas, kimonos, crochet, tapa cloth, jerseys, uniforms, rugs, quilts, tapestries, and more —but they inherently require different mounting techniques, including lacing, couching, pinning, tight-fit, and more. In this Speaker Series online session, Joyce will show mounting solutions for these valuable textiles, and how to properly preserve them for future generations. Identification of many textiles will also be covered.
Joyce Michels, MCPF, celebrating 25 years as the owner of Michels Frames & Things in St. Robert, MO, is a popular educator at framing events. PPFA Convention, and a contributor to Picture Framing Magazine. An expert on mounting and framing all kinds of textiles, Joyce was a contributor to the "PPFA Guidelines for Framing Textiles & Needlework." Her frame shop, near the U.S. Army base Fort Leonard Wood, MO, specializes in preservation framing of textiles, military items, and memorabilia. A Master Certified Picture Framer since 2005, Joyce has served on the PPFA certification board and is also an MCPF examiner, and a competition judge.
