The Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) Consumer Awareness Committee has spent the past few months revamping its consumer "Find-A-Picture-Framer" website with its international listing of PPFA members.

The website – at www.findapictureframer.com – includes a blog, frame gallery, “PPFA Frames For Good” section, YouTube videos, ideas center, links to the PPFA Facebook pages on custom framing in general as well as on framing military and sports memorabilia, Twitter and Pinterest links, information about Certified Picture Framer (CPF) and Master Certified Picture Framer (MCPF) designations, and the international database of PPFA framers for consumers.

The PPFA Consumer Awareness Committee is headed by Mary Fender, MCPF, owner of Frame Nation in Richmond, Va., with John Barlowe; Gary Blitsch; Lynn Fey-Duncan; and Karen Haden; as well as Mikki Kavich, MCPF; Mike Labbe; Randy Parrish, CPF; John Ranes II, CPF; Paul Thomas; and Cliff Wilson, MCPF, who also all worked on the Website sub-committee; and Web consultant Troy Veluz.

Jared Davis, MCPF, GCF, is the liaison from the PPFA Board of Directors; and PPFA members David Lantrip, MCPF, GCF; Sue Gittlen, MCPF; and Ron Mason, CPF, contributed input.

PPFA members are encouraged to check their information in the database, and provide updates/corrections/and hot links to their business websites to Nick Shaver, nshaver@pmai.org.

The link is wonky, Sheila. Takes me to a webmail page!

Apparently I've been evicted!
My business name doesn't come up in a search of my postcode/zipcode, or a state search or a country search. It only comes up if I search for my business name!

I wonder how long that's been going on?

Hi Ormond and Kai

The initial page of the site is set up to search for zip codes in USA or Canada at this time. (select zip code, select country prompts)

For international, there is a link just below. As far as I know - nothing has changed in the international/advanced area. It is still using the same PMAI.ORG (advanced) page for those searches, as it did in the past.

For example, if I select AUSTRALIA it lists them all. If I put a shop name, it will come up with a match.

Oddly, if I search for "Port Macquarie", it does not come up with your shop. (but another shop does) I don't know why.

There is certainly something odd going on, in any case. It may be a case where the data is entered in the wrong fields in the database, or a problem with the labfinder search program on the pmai site. (advanced/international search). I'm sure that someone from PPFA is reading this, and will investigate further.

Thanks for the info and troubleshooting
Mike

PS: I fixed the link in Sheila's original post, which was pointing to her email inbox instead of to www.findapictureframer.com

Mike,
Thanks for your reply. I did use the international area for my searches. Mine is not in the list, when I search 'Australia'! There is one in Victoria - Ormond Frames & Gifts - that's not me!

The only way mine appears is if I search for my business name! This is not good for a consumer searching for a framer in my area! they will only be directed to the other framer in my town!

Ormond, I know it's no consolation, but we've found a number of errors in the PPFA database.
We are advising everyone to check their record and email NIck Shaver if an error is found.

I think there's most likely a data entry issue with your record. I'm sure someone will check it out in the morning. It's evening here, and everyone has gone home for the night.

Everyone is encouraged to look themselves up, to make sure everything is there that you would like. (current address, phone #, business name, web site link, optional email, etc) As Cliff mentioned, there have been many that were outdated which required changes. Some of the records probably existed in the database, as members, since before folks started having websites. (so the fields are blank) It's a great opportunity for all to do so, to make this resource effective.

Got it.
But my business is not listed as having a CPF on staff. Can this be corrected please?
Is there a possibility, that all countries can be treated equally, instead of the USA and Canada being seen as nationally, while other countries are seen as international. Why does a consumer need extra clicks to search for a framer outside of North America?

For me, the USA and Canada are just as international as Greenland.
In other words, can the list of countries be transported to the box currently holding only the USA and Canada and remove all the countries that have no members of the PPFA. Some are so small, that they are unlikely ever to have a member.

The site is an improvement. Thanks to all those involved. You can expand the number of photos. Jared is a nice guy, but consumers like to see some other smiling framers too.

It is much better than the older version. Thanks everyone.

When I click on my company name, I can get to my website. However, when I click on "More Information" my website name shows up, but it is not underlined so it does not link to my website. Apparently it is not hyperlinked on the results page.

I checked others and they are also not hyperlinked, so I don't believe it has anything to do with the data I have provided.

Again, thanks everyone for your help.
