Are you an educator for the 2013 Convention?

Are you a framer, in the process of 'shopping' for your 2013 education?

This is a great place to give us a small taste or description of your class offerings, and to say HI.

For those shopping, you can also ask questions of the educators, to help in deciding which ones are right for you.

Which classes have YOU signed up for?

With that, I turn the floor over to you! :)

Hi! - Isn't it awkward when you at a club or party, the music is playing, everyone wants to dance, but no one wants to be "the first" on the floor?.... Well hopefully I'll try to break the ice a bit... At this year's convention, I'm really looking forward to teaching my NEW PPFA class - "Photoshop for the Frame Shop" - which will cover some easy methods and ideas I've found useful in Adobe Photoshop - for creating your own marketing signage and also some creative applications of printing technology with frame designs. This class is CE certified for MCPF recertification as well.

Preservation Chemistry and Phyisc (focus on function)

Knowing what we are doing and how it will work, is essential to paper preservation and understanding whether our materials function as buffers, barriers, filters, or scavengers is the focus of Preservation Chemistry, this year. Knowing how those capacities can be best used in disigning houding that optimize preservation will be the focus of Preservation Phyiscs, including new ideas for employing trusted materials in enhanced roles.

Glass Enclosures for 3-D Framing shows how to construct shadowboxes out of Museum Glass, which provide superior visibility of the shadowbox's contents, 99% UV filtering, and anti-reflection optical coatings. Since these can be made in-house using small leftovers of the glass, they generally cost less and look better than acrylic boxes purchased from plastic fabricators. This class is approved for MCPF continuing education credit. Monday 1-3 PM

For the National Conference at WCAF, I will also be teaching these classes:
The Complete Guide to Shadowboxes and Object Framing (lecture/workshop series) Sunday; 9-11:30 AM/1:30-4:30 PM
Fundamentals of Glazing Monday 10 AM-Noon
The Myth of Acid Free Tuesday 10 AM-Noon
Needleart Framing A to Z Tuesday 1-3 PM
Fundamentals of Framing Adhesives Tuesday 3:30-6 PM

I am teaching "Become a Sew and Sew". If you are intimidated by posts that say "sew in place" or "couch" or "just...followed by directions that make you scratch your head because you didn't learn to sew at your mother's knee, this class is for you.

We will begin at the beginning with types of thread and needles, and end up with pieces of 'needlework' you have personally mounted, which you get to take home to remind you how.

I guarantee you will become a Sew and Sew!

Pleased to be teaching four classes...

So what classes are YOU teaching or taking? Are you working on the trade show floor?

I can't believe how fast this is coming up. In less than 3 weeks, we will be there!

Andy is taking a lot of classes, i'll be helping out in the LifeSaver s/w booth and will be at the PPFA events, Tuesday night limo dinner, and Wed morning morning panel discussion.

I'm taking a bunch of classes this year.Starting with the luncheon on Sunday, followed by the history of frames that afternoon, then the welcome reception at 6. Monday I have the intro to the CPF exam (I came up a few points short last year and that won't happen again) then glass enclosures for 3d frame, then mounting sensitive items. Tuesday starts off with behind the scenes the best in conservation followed by gift items and more-a profitable product mix. I had been slated to end the day with profitable $ for production framing however, there was a scheduling conflict and that was cancelled. Finally, Wed. am I am attending the successful retailing panel discussion. I guess I will just sleep on the plane.

Classes

My wife is taking a "full load" of classes, also.
My schedule is as follows:

Annual Luncheon & Eli Wilner Keynote
Preserving/Framing Military Memorabilia
The Goltz Standard: Pricing Strategies
Glass Enclosures for 3-D Framing
Adobe Photoshop for Framers
Design Star: Framing Edition
Things Your Accountant Won't Tell You About the Framing Business
Successful Retailing: A Panel Discussion

This will also qualify me for four more years of my MCPF certification. For all you profs out there, please be gentle on us dumb students and a very sincere THANK YOU for all you do to help us and our industry. It really is appreciated.

Evan, no Chinese dinner?

Let's see.... I start off with The Perfect Corner on Sunday morning, followed by part one of Water Gilding in the afternoon. On Monday, I have part two of the Water Gilding class in the morning, with 3D Frames and French Matting in the afternoon. Early Monday evening, I also have the Design Star event, which should be interesting. On Tuesday, I have the Great Frame Designs class and a class with Jay Goltz in the afternoon, with of course, the Chinese dinner that evening. And on Wednesday, have Twenty-one Tips for Survival and the Print Competition awards in the afternoon. I think I might have 15 ninutes or so to hit the show floor at some point. It's going to be fun!

You forgot some. :) You have breakfast panel wed morning, framer's corner breakfast at 7am Sunday, PPFA reception sunday night, etc.

Ok maybe those aren't technically classes :)
