Yesterday I had a customer in the shop who was after a sprin-wire system for an ornamental plate. Her son brought it from Afghanistan where he was on a tour of duty.
I do not stock them (yet), but I told her, I can get them for her.
Soon after she was out the door, I searched online and found some on Ebay, bought them, and they will be sent to me.

The funny thing is, the customer could have done the same and saved herself a few bucks. Have you had the same situation with a customer? How long will it last, before customers become smart and start using the internet more often for their purchases. Certain shops can close their doors if more and more customers purchase online.

I have huge amount of inventory I have purchased off EBay, mostly antique prints and maps, vintage and retro illustrations, I have bins and bins full of them. Like anything I buy low and sell high. I have been at it long enough to know a good price and hopefully, but not always get it. I like to buy in bulk, so I would rather purchase lot of botanical rather than one at time. Sometimes I end up paying .10 cents per item and turn around and sell it for $20.

The thing that the internet can never do is hand something to the customer as soon as the customer expresses a need for it.

We carry every size and every finish of plate hangers that Bard's sells. If the customer brings in the plate and it doesn't fit exactly right, we will bend it. We sell them every week. Not as much as we did pre-internet, but we try to have lots of odd things that folks want right now or that cost so little that shipping will be prohibitive.
