Moulding Manufacturing Packaging/Handling fees in addition to actual shipping fees

Hello All,

We were curious what you at the retail level see as the average or range of packaging and handling fees (in addition to UPS or other shipper actual costs) you see from the various moulding manufacturers doing chop services are per chop. I am sure there is a bit of a range.

We know what our costs are on this and what we have been charging but we were curious how this stacks up against the range in the industry. I am also guessing that some claim they do not bill for that but I am sure it is absorbed in the cost of the actual moulding. We, as always try to be as transparent with our costs and pricing. We also need to be able to cover these very real rising costs.

Any input is appreciated.

thanks,

paul

They are not being billed if they have truck delivery, but even that is built into the cost or there is a gas fee. I just paid for a 8' x 8" x 8" box with a stick of moulding and the shipping was $18.00

Here are a few from some moulding vendors' price lists:

  • a $4.95 handling charge will be added to all invoices under $50
  • Invoices totaling less than $35 are assessed a $5.00 handling charge
  • a $3.50 minimum charge will be applied to orders less than $35 (I guess the "minimum" means they can charge more if they want?)
  • a handling charge of $3.50 will be added to all orders with invoice values $35 or less

is that what you wanted?

Most of the folks I deal with do not differentiate the handling....but their shipping line item usually includes it. I rarely order chops, and it is usually a single chop, so I notice the shipping. I once had to return a frame, and my cost to send it back with the same carrier was about a third of the shipping charge.

This gave me a rough idea of what the handling costs. I think this is fair and don't have a problem with it. It is a real cost to the supplier. I price mouldings that I order as chops accordingly.

Very few just absorb it and make it a part of the price of the moulding. And even deliveries across town come with some kind of charge.

I think if it isn't a burden for you to account for it, as a customer I would like seeing this broken out on the invoice.

We have a $5 handling charge per order regardless of the size. It is included in "Shipping & Handling" charge on the invoice. This charge is assessed even if the customer is picking up the order or having the shipping charges billed to their own account.
