Have a rush shadow box for Vietnam Vet. medals, ribbons etc... Needed a patch no one, I mean no uno! could get soon enough. Contacted USAMM (U S A Military Medals), will have next day from Oregon to PA. Gooood service. They also have what they call "E Z rack builder". You put in the medals and ribbons you have or need and they tell you in what order to display them. They have a great supply of items to help out families or Vets to fill in on lost items. Might want to check them out if you do any military work.

Re: Military Ribbons & edals

Interesting.
When New Zealand armed services medals are mounted, the medals are overlapping each other, because they are wider than the ribbons. To solve the problem of shifting in the frame, I place a dot of bluetac behind each medal. Not ideal, admittedly.

Apparently the width of the US medals is less than the width of their ribbons, so you don't have this problem.

Re: Military Ribbons & edals

Good idea Cliff.
It takes more time, but the medals hang more securely.
Assumedly they cannot swing forward against the glass?

With several medals mounted next to each other and with a clip on pin at the back, what method do you use for attaching the mounted medals to the back of the matboard?

I cut a narrow slot into the board, drop the pin in it and short pieces of 1/8" econospacer to hold everything in place. Hope this explanation makes sense.
That way it is still reversible and the medals can be take out and worn. Afterward put back into the frame.

Sounds similar to what I do, but I use a Mylar strap through the pin taped to the back of the mat board.

Follow up on USAMM service. I called them last night at 5:30 PM Pa. time and this morning at 10 AM I'm salting the side walk for our 300th ice storm. Up pulls FedEx and she hands me the most needed badge. I must be very old because I find that just amazing. So Cool, Old Dude.
