“The Art of the Edge”
A Private tour guided by Suzanne Smeaton
Two-time WCAF keynote speaker for the PPFA, Suzanne is a pioneer in the study and scholarship of period frames. Suzanne has framed fine art for over 38 years working extensively in the field of American period frames for both public and private clients. She has firsthand knowledge of the frames and has participated in frame selections for artworks in many public collections including the Yale University Art Gallery, the Detroit Institute of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art where she coordinated the replication of the original frame for Emanuel Leutze’s 12′ X 21′ Washington Crossing the Delaware. Read Suzanne’s BIO HERE.
Join us for our own private tour as Suzanne focuses on the artistry of the FRAMES rather than the paintings. Frames are often thought of as the margin of art, the border, not the ‘main event.’ Join us as we go through the American Paintings. We will explore the galleries as well as the frames on view in the Luce Study Center. Learn about the frames on the artworks – how they were made, their history, who designed them, who chose them and why. Join us as we go through the galleries with easy conversation and plenty of opportunity to have your questions answered in a warm, friendly environment.
Suzanne is a certified member of the Appraiser’s Association of America. www.suzannesmeaton.com
“Suzanne Smeaton makes frame history fun. If frames could talk, Suzanne is their voice! After a day with her, you will never look at the frames in a museum the same way. What an incredible opportunity it is for the PPFA to have access to her knowledge.”
