We have been getting a number of re-frames lately from a big box store we'll give a nom de plume of "Avocation Front Room" or AFR. The quality of work is substandard and nothing close to what the customer thinks they are buying. Is this just a fluke in my area or have others noticed that the big box stores are hedging on product to their customers? In passing, they are NOT PPFA members as far as I can tell.

It seems to be very inconsistent here. I get a few in every year to do something with. Sometimes the materials are all top of the line and the techniques acceptable. Other times, though they are still using good quality materials, the mounting and assembly are appalling.

I think it has something to do with a varied staff, and some things are done in-house while others are shipped off to a central warehouse. I have never been able to discern what determines this, but think it is probably more about timing than the size or nature of the work.
