This is just a quick marketing survey and discussion to see how the word got out about the new forum.

How did you find out?

Thanks,
Mike

That's funny :gossip: It was discussed a lot at the show, how broken and non functional the old software had become. New browsers came out, which were not compatible with the old FC. This was the main problem.

I think we started talking about the details/plan AT the Las Vegas airport, on the way home from WCAF :)

We then set up a test/demo site and got approval, purchased this domain, the software license, and webhosting all on the 8th of Feb. It spent the next several days being tweaked, tested, and beautified. Gregory Norris did a great job moving important content from the old forum to the new one. (framer's help line discussions of interest) It went live to the public on 2/13. (two weeks earlier than the 3/1 promised date) In the weeks following, we set up private sections for PPFA committees to have their discussions and meetings.

Cliff Wilson, Jim Esp, Elaine Truman, and others get the credit for getting approval to repair/improve/replace this resource in such a timely manner. The FC Forum committee (the current moderators) also did a lot of work to come up with the format/layout, policies, procedures, etc. The verification of new registrants is an ongoing manual process, done by the mods.

The new forum had more posts in the first 30 days than the previous Framer's Corner had in 4 years. :) A lot of members still aren't aware of it, so hopefully the next set of announcements brings in more participants. I'm sure chapters will also mention it at their next meeting. I think this will be a great resource, with everyone's participation.

Feedback and suggestions are always welcomed
Mike

I am a picture framing groupie. I am sure I would have found the new FC forum even if it was not announced on the old FC forum. Remember ole' hitchikers posts? loved the exchange of framing practices and proceedures old framers shared with newbies. This is where the best framing ideas are shared.

I answered that I heard about it from For Members Only magazine.
When answering I meant a forum run by the PPFA for pictureframers, whatever its name or reincarnation.
Not every member of the PPFA will be interested in Framers Corner, as some may be more interested in talking to framers at conventions, seminars, trade-shows. We are all members of the PPFA, but have different reasons of joining and what we want out of it. Some famous framers who feature in PFM are not members of this forum and perhaps they do not wish to do so.

Some members have been talking about this improvement for a long time, so it's hard to say exactly when or where we first heard about it. For me, the first hint that "maybe it could happen soon" came from a Board member in another of those "wouldn't it be great if..." conversations over dinner in Las Vegas.

Good job, all!

I checked "PPFA email blast" but it's hard to say for sure, because it seems I suddenly heard about it from several different sources within a span of a few short days. I applaud everyone who contributed to the forum. PPFA should be on the forefront of communications in our industry, as well as the cutting edge of technology. I'm glad to see the organization continuing to move in that direction, and this forum is a BIG step. This forum is very easy to use and has a professional atmosphere, which I like very much.

Good to hear Barb,
In the days before the internet this kind of fast and inexpensive communication was not possible. We could pick up the phone at three in the morning to speak to a framer on the other side of the world, but that is only one framer, not 190 framers at the same time. The next step is to have us speaking into the camers on top of our screen instead of typing in the message. It will be nice to see more photos of how other members look like together with their ages. Nothing wrong with mentioning our age. I hate getting more gray hairs, but that is life.

Many members visit and read the posts without contributing. That is fine, if they have nothing to add, but if they have ideas, just share them. Sometimes I get my fingers burnt by someone else contradicting my points of view or statements, but that is how I learn and become more knowledgeable as a framer.

There are some questions, whereby the answers can be found in one of the books on sale thru the PPFA or FATG. Recently I bought a number of books and intend to buy more. Spend roughly $1000 on these books and that is a good investment.

The forum is a good medium for those of us who are not good at public speaking (shyness, stuttering). There are others who are natural public speakers and good entertainers. We can all contribute on the same level playing field. Seminars and webinars will still be there.

Well Done, team!!

I first heard about it via the email blast on 7th March. Then I saw the item in FMO on 17 March, and then I seem to remember seeing something on the Grumble as well. So I guess I'd have to say that your advertising worked pretty well, even way "down Under".

And then to top all that, it was great to receive an email from the Moderator team to welcome me to the new site. Most appreciated.

Overall, I am highly impressed with the work that you guys have undertaken to upgrade the "corner'. The forum is easy to use, with a well organised and professional approach.

I just got the email from the PPFA.
Good to see the new and improved site here. I'm looking forward to checking it all out. I have to say that I've never been a big fan of the Grumble(you don't even have to be a framer to post there, correct?) but really enjoyed the exchange on the old Hitchhiker site.
This is a great time to have a really great forum. Picture framers need a good forum for 'em...:playful: o.k.
Let's pump it up!
Best,
Thomas

A warm welcome to ALL!

Together, we can make this a great resource, by posting new discussion threads and contributing/replying to existing threads. I'm confident that it will do well. with everyone's participation.

Remember, the second block of forums are away from public view. Your customers and the search engines will not be able to see the contents of these forums, so framers can be more open about topics such as framing Q&A, employment issues, vendor sourcing questions, or financial planning. I feel that this is a big advantage that Framer's Corner has over other forums. We manually verify each new signup, before granting access to the private sections of FC.

The first block of forums, however, (press releases/meeting announcements, framer's design showcase, and framer classifieds) are viewable by the search engines and by the general public. This was done intentionally, to promote PPFA events and generate new memberships. You'll notice that threads/posts in the first block have a Facebook "LIKE" button. By clicking this, it will promote your event through facebook - and refer folks to visit this forum for more info. The goal is to have a working relationship among the PPFA chapter websites, this forum, ppfa.com, findapictureframer.com, Facebook, and other social media outlets. With all of these resources referencing each other, they should all gain additional visibility.

There is also a third block of private forums, for the various PPFA committees. There are about a dozen committees already represented on FC, and these are quite active. If you belong to a committee, please request access from your committee chairperson.

Mike

Kai, They are committees of the Board of Directors.
One is the Board of Directors itself.
Others committees are:

Awards and Recognition Committee
Certification Board
Chapter Relations Committee
Competition Board
Education Committee
Framers' Corner Moderators
Guidelines Task Force
PPFA Consumer Awareness Committee
Nominations Committee
Scholarship Committee
Supplieer Committee
Membership Committee

I might have forgotten a couple. That was from memory.

Not all have private forums.
How to become a member for each committee varies. Some are prescribed by by-laws.
Most are appointed by the PPFA President.

If you are interested in helping, go to www.ppfa.com and click on "Get Involved in YOUR PPFA"

Hope that answered your question?

Please feel free to participate in this survey. Now that we have a larger member list, it should be interesting to see the results. :bump:

I read about it in a thread on the Grumble via Rob Markoff, so felt it was worth looking into. I plan to keep looking and posting. I like variety and will go to both places.
