What sorts of things have you seen used as improvised picture wire?

Those white strings holding white see-thru curtains up with two hooks on the side. They have a bit of stretch to pull them between the two window-posts. I do not know the name for, but hope you get the idea.
That sounds like the "winner" so far!
I did some framing for a musician who fancied himself to be an artist, as well. His usual practice was to buy garage sale or flea market frames for his artworks. His usual hanging system consisted of a broken guitar string stapled to the frame's side rails. Actually, it worked pretty well.
Nothing is going to beat the string of paper clips, but I did have one that had a fuzzy pink bathrobe belt as a hanger. I sure wish I had taken a picture of it.

I am certain i had one with silver wire( as in the precious kind) once, but my fav was the piece that came in for re-framing with wine bottle corks blue tacked to the bottom of the frame presumably to stand off from the wall.:smile:
