A huge shout out to Framer's Inventory, a distributor in the Pacific Northwest, PPFA member and advertiser in PPFA member advantage - you rocked the day with a fantastic event for your customers! We had excellent classes taught by PPFA members Jim Miller and Nancy Thorn as well as classes from Paul MacFarland and Michael Pacitti. Vendors galore, great food and friends! Framer's Inventory graciously worked with PPFA to provide a table and we were able to meet potential members and talk about all the benefits our organization can offer. The day left all of us invigorated and ready to gear up for our very busy season ahead.

Myrna, how did the PPFA competition judging go? Who won? I thought it was generous of Framers Inventory to invite the PPFA competition in addition to their own, which had about twice as many entries as the PPFA competition.

To all of the PPFA members who attended, thank you. Framers Inventory does this every three years as I recall. The one-day event was expected to attract about 200-300 framers, and reportedly it did. There was considerable traffic throughout the day from 9 AM to 5 PM, and the classes were full. The professionally catered breakfast and lunch were very good. The vendors were pleased with the sales as well as the turnout. I hope to be invited back again.

Since the event, I've been trying to figure out what made this meeting so appealing to framers. What is the secret ingredient, and could it be transferred to PPFA meetings?

My thoughts on the success of the Framer's Inventory event is two fold. One, it is only held every 3 years and two it is free to their customers. There are many vendors that support the event and that adds to the attraction. They have excellent contact with their customers via Constant Contact and email. Their competition was a lot of fun to see. The image was treated as a poster and not how PPFA would treat an item of artwork. But it was exciting to see all of the diversity and creativity. Next time they have their event, I will look at the image from a different viewpoint. It will be altered and changed to add additional interest and I will forget about the preservation Kooltack and mount and cut away! It was very exciting to have 1st place garnered by our own PPFA member Framin' Artworks out of Eugene, Oregon. Congratulations!

As far as the PPFA competition, we were very happy Framer's Inventory allowed the competition pieces to be displayed. It created interest for our PPFA Chapter and we were able to gather email addresses to help us contact potential members. We collected the names through a drawing.

Even though our group is small - it is mighty. A number of the members have garnered top prizes in the National Competition over the years. I have taken over the President spot and have an excellent board and we will work hard to grow our Chapter. It would be amazing to have meetings with 20-30 framers and we hope to have that happen.

In the print competition: 1st - Myrna Dow, 2nd - Kristen Ling, 3rd Donna Owens and Mindy Werth with a first time entry award. In the open competition - 1st - Myrna Dow. The judging was held on Saturday and arranged by board member Julia Heinzmann.
