For sure

No doubt in my mind. If something bizarre is going to happen, it is much more likely to happen in the week of a full moon. Since I have been in business, as many great things as bad things have happened.

When I was young and working in a 24 hr mental health center crisis unit, I actually tracked the phases of the moon. The job was much more dangerous during those days.

Over the years I have heard lots of law enforcement and medical professionals remark on this. But still, all of the experts insist that it is statistically a myth. I think that statistics can't account for the bizarre. To them, a cut is just a cut, but from a service-provider's point of view, a cut from a kitchen knife is very different from a cut from a neighborhood knife fight involving 20 people and a barking dog.

Well that is my story anyway.

OK... I'm not so sure about the Full Moon thing affecting much that we do, but in the framing business, I have found two truths that come to mind immediately....

1) Having spent 38 years running a retail store front operation in Wisconsin and monitoring the monthly sales, outside of the fourth quarter, every month remaining is pretty even statistically. However with Winter weather in Wisconsin, you can bet that either January or February will take a hit and you will see a 10-15% drop!

2) Over-riding Observation number One, is the Election Year phenomenon... Kindly explain why the "well heeled" withdrawn during this Primary to Fall Election, as "if the other-side gets elected" the roof will fall! Really... and every time, within a week or two after the election, everyone breathes and starts spending again!

John

P.S. Have a great Easter Weekend, everyone!

On balance, John is right. And though I don't have that long of a history, my sales work out pretty much the same, year after year.

But still, if someone is going to ask me to frame a half-eaten cookie, it is far more likely to occur during a full moon.

I don't fly in the face of science often, but I am unwavering about this one. Go figure. :noidea:

I believe in the full moon theory.

1. When I took a stat class [back in the last century] I remember reading about a study of accidents at a particular intersection in some town, I believe Poland? and there significant increases during full moons.

2. Janet's OBGyn insisted there were more babies born around full moons. And schedules vacations accordingly.

3. I believe the tides are higher at full moons, [but don't quote me], so if full moons can generate enough gravitational force to move the oceans, I believe it could also have an effect on other items too.

From our friends at Wikipedia:
Lunatic
is an informal term referring to a person who is considered mentally ill, dangerous, foolish or unpredictable, conditions once attributed to lunacy. The term may be considered insulting in serious contexts in modern times, but is now more likely to be used in friendly jest. The word derives from lunaticus meaning "of the moon" or "moonstruck". The term was once commonly used in law.

Since the orbit of the moon is elliptical the gravitational force varies directly proportional to nearness. Oct 16 of this year should generate the "Harvest Moon" and above normal tidal flow. See the chart linked. If there is also a low pressure system and or strong easterly winds on that same date , we would experience coastal flooding.

Empirical data of full moon psychological affects have been recorded for centuries. I think that most ob/gyn's will have the same observation, as will emergency rooms.

Your replies are way more intelligent than what I was going for. I was thinking our customers were just acting a lot nuttier than usual with the full moon zapping them? From your data I have decided it's me. Thank you.
