Today, we are launching our brand new “Focus on…” feature in PMA Newsline! In this regular column, we will be providing brief profiles highlighting PMA members from all over the world.
PMA Member Profile: Rob Markoff, CPF
Rob Markoff, CPF, is a prime example of an association member with a foot in more than one camp. A long time member of the Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA), he has worked diligently to help PMA – and was one of five PMA members that received the 2013 PMA Distinguished Service Award last January for invaluable contributions to the photo imaging industry.
“PPFA stays on the cutting edge of the latest technology, techniques and guidelines for our industry,” he says. “My membership has provided me access to conservators and museum professionals. As a framing professional, I cannot imagine not being a member of our industry’s trade association. The workers comp benefits alone have saved me way more than the cost of my dues.”
Rob has been an active member of the picture framing community for 42 years. He and Barbara, his wife of 20 years, have owned and operated Gallery Services/Artrageous, a custom framing and installation company in San Diego, Calif., since 1981.
Involved with PPFA since its inception, Rob was awarded the PPFA President’s Special Recognition Award in 2005. He served for many years as Vice President and Program Chairman of the PPFA San Diego Chapter and was a member of the PPFA Advisory Committee.
He originated very popular PMA “trade-show tours,” taking framers attending the annual PPFA Conventions through the PMA trade show to find and demonstrate items of value to framers offered by the imaging industry; and was a keynote luncheon speaker at PPFA 2010 in Anaheim, Calif.
Rob wrote extensively for DECOR Magazine and is a regular contributor to Picture Framing Magazine and Australia’s Profile Magazine. He is a popular speaker and educator at industry venues across the United States, Canada, and at The Framing Show in Australia, and is a popular educator at the annual PPFA Conventions in Las Vegas, as well as at the West Coast Art & Frame Expo/The National Conference.
A native of Los Angeles, where he graduated from University High School, Rob studied Communications at the University of California, San Diego, Calif. He and Barbara are the proud parents of Rachel.
