Position Description:

A Fine Art Conservation Company located in Beverly, MA is seeking a Custom Picture Framer / Studio Assistant to join our growing company.

About Us:

We are one of the leading art restoration and conservation companies in the United States and are the oldest, having been in business for the past one hundred and sixty years. From our beginnings in New York City in the 1850′s through today, we have helped preserve, restore and conserve numerous works of art. Our areas of expertise include paintings, works on paper, antique and contemporary picture frames, gilded objects, icons, murals and sculpture

Responsibilities:


  • Perform all aspects of custom framing assembly
  • Manage custom framing work flow to meet schedules and deadlines
  • Assist Art Conservators as necessary with conservation projects
  • Maintain studio supplies, tools and equipment
  • Maintain organization and neatness of art storage areas
  • Perform artwork pickup and deliveries
  • Artwork installation

Required Skills:


  • Minimum of 3 years of custom framing experience
  • Good knowledge of all aspects of custom framing including: ability to cut and join frames, fillet cutting and fitting, use of computerized mat cutter, wrap liners and mats with fabric and create custom hinges.
  • Accurate measuring skills
  • Ability to handle large oversize projects
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs
  • Knowledge of conservation framing methods and materials
  • Be a detail-oriented person with strong communication skills, critical thinking, and out-of-the-box problem solving abilities

Preferred Skills:


  • Basic frame restoration skills
  • Custom framing design and sales experience
  • Knowledge of POS software
  • Gilding and woodworking
  • Studio Photography Skills (for taking photographs of artwork)
  • Knowledge of Photoshop
  • Good general knowledge of the Visual Arts and Art History
  • Experience in art handling, wrapping and packing


Hours:

35 hours a week; Monday- Friday 9 am - 5 pm
