PPFA offers annual scholarships for framers to earn Certified Picture Framer and Master Certified Picture Framer designations.
The L. Thomas McKeon, CPF, Scholarship Program was created in 1997 by the PPFA board of directors. Up to five individuals are selected each year, to receive a scholarship for a free sitting for the CPF examination (value $225 US). The written exam can be taken at a Chapter meeting, PPFA Annual Convention, or online.
CPF scholarship recipients also receive: PPFA Guidelines for Framing Textiles and Needlework; PPFA Guidelines for Framing Paintings on Canvas; PPFA Guidelines Framing Works of Art on Paper; PPFA Art & Picture Framing Glossary of Standard Terms; and PPFA Comparative Standards for Matboards.
Applicants must have a minimum of one year of hands-on experience in retail or wholesale picture framing; be a current PPFA member or an employee at a PPFA member shop; be a Certified Picture Framer in good standing and have taken a recertification course within the last four years; have not previously taken the MCPF exam; and meet all deadlines for submission of application and supporting materials.
The Vivian C. Kistler MCPF Scholarship was established by the PPFA Chapter Relations Committee to honor the memory of this beloved mentor and educator. The scholarship, awarded annually, includes one sitting of the MCPF exam and a stipend to help offset expenses, and has an estimated value of $900.
An applicant must have a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in retail or wholesale picture framing; and meet similar requirements to the CPF applicants.
Only one individual per PPFA member organization may be awarded a scholarship during any one calendar year.
Applications must be received by September 15 for scholarships awarded for the following calendar year. A scholarship must be redeemed by the end of the following calendar year.
