The Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) has released an 8-page booklet “Comparative Standards for Matboards – a Comprehensive Guide of Classifications and Specifications.”

The PPFA Guidelines Task Force – under Chairperson Jim Miller, MCPF, GCF, with William Parker, MCPF, GCF and David Lantrip, MCPF, GCF – spearheaded this project, with input from framing suppliers, preservation and conservation experts, museum specialists and industry consultants.

This is the first in a PPFA “Comparative Standards” series, describing and categorizing materials and methods to help framing practitioners determine which selections are most appropriate for any given framing project.

The authors categorized matboards into four classes for the retail framing market: highest quality framing; most preservation framing; decorative framing; and decorative, short-term framing. The brochure also includes an extensive A to Z glossary of terminology relating to matboards.

The booklet is available from several framing suppliers and available from PPFA for $5. For more information, call 800-762-9287 or email ppfa@ppfa.com. Several suppliers should have supplies of the booklet available at WCAF, and the booklet will be available at the PPFA booth, located at the entrance to the WCAF Expo, near the Registration area. Suppliers are welcome to email PPFA for an order form.

Hi Kai, It's at the printers - and will make its 'debut' at PPFA 2014/WCAF - and no doubt it will be in the PPFA store after that.

Sheila,
For long distance framers, perhaps you could consider a digital option that could be downloaded???
Hi Ormond:

Part of the plan is to ask framing suppliers to buy copies of the standards in bulk and provide them to framers in their markets. One of the matboard makers popular in Australia has already committed to buy hundreds of copies, and my guess is that some of them will soon land at Antons and/or L-J/Megawood for distribution to their framing customers.

So, my friend, you may be able to get a copy for a really, really good price in return for a nice order.

Hahahaha.......I placed my final order, back in December! Looks like I'll miss out, unless I can rely on the generosity of my former rep! :sneakiness:
