Hi Chapter Leaders,
We had enough ribbons to cover our competition except for just one category-"Open-First Place." Are there any Chapters that have an extra from previous years? I thought that I would give it a try. :first:
Thanks,
Susan

Greg,
Any date is good since we had the competition already.

Just curious, where did you get them and did they look just like the old ones? It might be better just to order a new set and get an extra one of the one we are lacking.

Any input on where to get them and what quantity that you purchased them in is appreciated.

Thanks,
Susan

Susan,
I used the old ribbons as models for the new ones. I thought I understood that the competition board required this style. I used one of my regular local vendors, though I don't remember if he made them or ordered them from a third party, or exactly what they cost. I'l be back at work on Monday and check on it and send the information to you with the ribbon. It is important to order at least 12 of each style one at at time to avoid bumping charges for each time the copy changes.

I like Mike's design, but suspect we will be using these for some time since we just reordered. As long as someone is willing to keep up with them, they are not a huge expense. But it would probably behoove chapters to go together at purchase time to avoid having to keep up with inventory that is actually pretty delicate.

The best source, as I think Mike and Cliff pointed out is a LOCAL trophy shop. I would be happy to sell them to anyone, as would Mike & Cliff's member, but I am a great believer in buying local whenever possible. If you have one in your area that is keeping up with new materials, equipment and trends, e.g. lasers, sublimation, etc, you will be amazed at the things that you can learn and the many ways you can help each other prosper. I sound like a commercial. Sorry.

Greg,
Does the ribbon have your Chapter name on it?
Does it have the PPFA Logo like the old one?
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a PPFA "shopping cart" site where we could just order what we needed and pay for it accordingly? The design work and decisions would all be taken care of. That's essentially like before but we would just be paying for it.

They are just like the ones we used to get from PPFA. There is nothing chapter specific. I retrieved the one you need from the box while I was in Pittsburgh, and it will be on its way to you as soon as the weather settles down enough for me to get to the post office. The USPS website has been down so I couldn't download the postage. I don't mind doing it the old-fashioned way, but I am mailing packages of photos out almost every day now, so it messes with my life. I hope they get back to normal soon.

I don't know the rationale for the decision to quit making them available from the PPFA. Like many decisions, it seems like a money-loser to me. I bought them for something like 3.50 each, delivered and imprinted exactly like those we had been getting from PPFA. That was a dealer price, so retail would have been about $7.

We did have to pay setup charges, and presumably everybody else did too, since the process of gold foil stamping requires a metal die of the logo. On the other hand, I spent 2 hrs on getting the order and artwork together, so I guess there was an additional $120 shifted from PPFA to the chapter since that was 2 hrs I couldn't spend on something productive for the chapter. Re-orders will be less since they keep the die on file.

Bulk buying, rather than buying a dozen of each would have brought the price below $2. So...like I said, it seems like a money-losing, problem-causing decision to me, but then I am out here in the hinterlands. Even at that price, PPFA would have to be sitting on considerable inventory to make sure there was always enough stock for each chapter, and perhaps that was the reason for the change.

I also noted the Linda Pujo mentioned in the CB chat this month about chapters not using appropriate ribbons, but we were not supplied with artwork or design guidance from PPFA. I'll be asking that the competition board consider this at their next meeting. A list of suggested vendors would also be helpful. We were lucky to have one of each among us to use as models, so ours don't look any different than previous years, and we were able to use our stock from previous competitions.
