Over the years, shops have changed from one type to another. It should be interesting to discuss our primary backing method completed frames.

Which method(s) do you use, and how do you adhere the backing to the piece? Glue? Atg? Duct tape?
(just kidding!)

Discussion is welcomed!

I've mostly switched to the Larson Buffered Backing Paper.
My price for that is a little less than the Lineco Product from Don Mar (It's a LOT less than the Lineco product from Larson),
yet it is still a buffered paper.
Not super thrilled with the color, but it's OK.
I also have the mylar rolls for times when I want a less permeability.

Not that it matters, but Michaels is using Lineco exclusively in my area.

Cliff, what color is that Larson buffered paper?

Somebody posted on the G some time ago that CMI moulding had a grey paper that was a special mfg from Peterboro and that they paired it with black hardware for a nice look at about the same price as the Lineco.

When I exhaust my supply of Lineco, I will be switching since Lineco has changed the look and composition of the blue paper.

I use mylar under the Lineco paper when I need a better seal.

Hard to describe the Larson Color I've been getting ... kind of a yellow/green grey.
Not the prettiest, but it's the back of the frame after all.

I think it's better than the near-white that Lineco has switched to.

Greg, if you use the rolled mylar that Hugh recommended, there is no need for paper over it. ATG holds it quite well to the back of the frame.

I use the Lineco for my more generic work and Tyvek for my higher end work.

And, yes, the benefit of Tyvek is 1) it is more puncture proof, and 2) it looks better than the paper that most of my customers are familiar with. So, I consider it an upgrade. NOTE: Tyvek is NOT waterproof!

I've used brown Kraft paper at some shops with ATG. One shop used brown Kraft they had custom printed with designs on it and used either ATG or glue. Currently I'm using LJ's Grey brown (whatever color it is haha) paper with ATG.

I wonder if the CMI grey is the same as what LJ is selling? We are still using Lineco, but started out with Brown and then Black for several years. (Black fades terribly and gets brittle, so we switched to Lineco about a decade ago)

I switched to the LJ "gray" when Lineco changed to "almost white". The new Lineco backing paper showed every little smudge and took too much effort to keep it spotless. When I saw the color of the LJ paper on the roll it really gave me pause. But once I started using it, I thought it looked nice. It would help if the color stayed consistent because we make back pouches from the leftover pieces that are not big enough to save for dust cover use and if we change backing paper color the pouches don't match. :sorrow:
