I will be cross posting this in several forums> I apologize in advance if you see it in multiple places.
Some of you know I have been working on various group trips to Europe for Framers that include tours and education (and also some free time).
It seems logical that the first trip should be to London as I have already established contacts there, public transportation is easy and affordable (meaning we don't have to use busses) and there is less of a language barrier....though a "mat" is called a "mount" and what we call mounting they call, "bonding."
I am putting out feelers to see if there is interest in the following trip - most likely in October:
The "package" is land only- you are responsible for your own air transportation - though I can assist you in schemes that could mean free round trip airfare.
The "package" includes bed and breakfast (double occupancy) and an Oyster card that allows transportation on the Tube and by Bus and by boat down the Thames River to London Tower from Westminster Abby. All other meals are a la carte though we could have some group pub meals - or a communal meal at the British Museum and I am also hoping for a "mixer" with members of the Fine Art Trade Guild. Depending on interest, we could also have a theatre night (London Theater is first rate) and other cultural activities as well.
The "package" would include a compo making workshop at a frameshop that has been run by the same family for over 200 years, a tour of a conservation laboratory at the British Museum, a docent tour by a frame historian at the National Gallery, and of course free time to explore some of London's major attractions (on your own) - or perhaps a group purchase of an open air bus tour.
The tour would be five days, though you could arrive earlier or stay later. We could get the group rate at the same hotel for those who want to arrive early or stay late - or use London as your jumping off point to other European destinations (including Paris via the Chunnel). I have not worked out the costs as the pound vs dollar is a moving target and I need to see how many are interested but I am hoping to keep it at under $1900 per person. I want a small group of 10-12 people.
Anyone interested?
