As you might know I'm back in school as of this month. As part of my research methods class I have made a short survey for framers, meant to gather some information about your matboard preferences and how that may have changed recently. It's just seven easy questions, and I'd really appreciate it if you would take a couple minutes to complete the survey. No personal information will be collected or shared.

Also, the more data I can collect the more meaningful the results. If you could help me out by sharing the link I'd really appreciate it.

The SURVEY.

Many thanks!

I have completed the survey.

As long as this was for a class, and I used to be involved in market research, I would like to make a couple of comments concerning the survey design. I'm not trying to be picky, but just some thoughts for future surveys you may do.

Question 6 implies that the respondent used to buy their mats from LJ. Many framers have purchased from local distributors because their prices were better before and after the LJ and Crescent change. Or for other reasons.

Question ? asks about the kind of framer you are -eg store front, franchise, home based, primarily business oriented... This is really asking 2 questions a) type of location and b) kind of customer. There are many home based customers that are more commercial, and probably sell more than many store front locations.

Typically, I like to have a question relating to size. For example, a 10 employee shop and a 1 employee shop are probably weighted equally, in the results. Depending on what you are planning on doing with the information, this could influence decisions you are trying to make.

I did like the way, in the ranking question, if you typed something, the questions re-arranged in order.

Good luck.

Hi Russ,

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. So far, with the survey up just a few hours, 59 people have responded. I consider that a great start. This is for a class, so I welcome input. We're not expected to get this one perfect, with it being our first survey, so as long as I learn from it then it's a success.

I could have done question 6 better. I got it too firmly in my head that people had been buying Crescent from Larson all along and I wanted to see what affects the change may have had. If people had not been buying the mats from Larson to begin with then there would not be a change in their buying habits and that would skew the question about that. I could go back and change the question but with so many responses so far I don't want to skew things by changing things this far in.

This question was mostly an ice breaker. Our instructor told us we should start off with an easy question to ease people into things. Most people know their sex, age, etc. You're right, I did mix business model in with customer type, and I would change that in future surveys. But in this case I think most framers can fit themselves pretty neatly into one of the categories I listed. Plus, I did have the weasel phrase of "best describes" in there. None may be a 100% fit but one is likely to be pretty close.

I'll let you all know how it goes.

David, I was happy to do the survey. I hope that this course has become a little easier since my days in grad school. I had a terrible time with it. But I must have learned something since I caught one of the two items Russ mentioned.:smile-new:

Thanks to everyone for the help. I received 187 replies, which I consider pretty darned good, so I cut it off once the responses coming in slowed to a halt. You can have a look at my blog discussing it HERE. In the next few days or early next week I will add another post discussing the results.

Thanks again!
