Please endulge me while I reflect...
This weekend marked the 10th anniversary for my business. I officially opened the door and turned on the "open" sign on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend in 2004. That store has since been relocated a 1/2 mile down the road and I have recently opened a second location in a neighboring town. It was a bumpy ride for the first several years then the economy tanked, but it seems to have turned a corner now and is begining to feel a little more stable. Completely unpredictable, but more stable at the same time. Adding a second store (even a third) had been in the plans from day one, but the bumpy start slowed those plans a little. Who knows what the future holds. The life of my business has not gone as predicted and has not been easy, but when I look back; it went well. It will be interesting to look back on the next 10 years.
This also means 10 years in PPFA. It is hard to believe it has been that long already. Membership in PPFA was also in my business plan from the start. Why anyone would get involved in the picture framing business and not belong to its professional organization is beyond me. PPFA has been immensely helpfull in so many tangible and intangible ways over the years. I was a PPFA member back in the 80 through the shop I was working for and always remembered the value it brought. It will be interesting to look back on the next 10 years of PPFA.
I am also fast approaching 30 years in the framing business... oh my... who would have thought that when I took that summer job in high school that it would have lead to this. I was supposed to be a golf pro... or play in the NHL.... what happened?
Only 20 more years until retirment. Is it too early to start planning that?
