6/3/13: FAUX FINISHING MATS AND MOULDINGS

  • Afternoon Program: 1:00pm – 4:00pm
Faux Finishing Treatments for Mats and Mouldings

Would you like to take your designs to the next level? Faux finishes can be applied to mouldings or mats, when looking for a unique result that complements your customer’s artwork. This skill can also be used to make your own unique closed corner frames.

These treatments set you apart from other framers, and can be a source of additional revenue.

Instructor Andy Langlois, CPF will demonstrate faux finishing treatments such as steampunk, weathered metals, stone, leather, and brick. Students will learn the basics for creating realistic-looking finishes, from building up base textures to adding and defining details. In this hands-on workshop, students will faux finish a 5×7 picture frame, provided with their enrollment fee. They will also receive a faux finishing starter kit, including “recipe booklet” detailing each faux treatment, three paintbrushes, gloves, four 2 oz. bottles of paint, and a 2oz. bottle of mod podge, This starter kit can be brought back to the shop to be added to as you start creating your own fabulous faux finished frames and mats.

In addition to being an artist in several mediums, Andy has been involved in the picture framing industry for 20 years. He owns Get The Picture Framing in Lincoln, RI.

Note: Pre-registration required for afternoon sessions. Space Limited. Cost includes materials.

I have been seeing photos of what Andy is working on for his class, and I am very VERY jealous. If you are in driving distance, you are a FOOL not to go.

Andy has been busy for the past couple weeks, making frames and faux finishing "starter kits" for the class. Each participant will receive one, to take home.
